What design principals contribute to an effective service-based website

September 1, 2023

When it comes to design and if you’re a female entrepreneur in the service provider space, we know how important your website is. We always emphasize the importance of having a solid brand strategy for your business, as it makes everything else so much easier. When designing an effective service-based website, there are a few key things to consider, such as website strategy and identifying your ideal client. Once you have a website strategy and a clear idea of your dream client, you can incorporating them into your website.

Here are some important questions to ask yourself when it comes to your strategy:

  1. What is the purpose or goal of your website?
  2. Who is your target audience?
  3. What information do you want to convey to your audience?
  4. What actions do you want your audience to take on your website?

After answering these questions, you can begin planning your website layout. Once we have a website strategy for our clients, we sketch out a website layout based on our website goals. What journey do you want your audience to take once they enter your website? Do you want them to book a call, download your freebie, or read about your services? Knowing this will help you design your website layout strategically, guiding your audience through it as you intend.

It’s also important to understand your dream client’s perspective. Are they male or female? Single or married? Entrepreneur or corporate worker? Knowing this information will help you create an effective website strategy.

For example, let’s say your dream client is a 30-year-old single woman who is an entrepreneur and social media manager. With this information, you can plan your website strategy accordingly.

Since she is young, a modern and minimalistic design would draw her in. You can also use a hamburger menu instead of a banner navigation menu, as she will be more familiar with it compared to an older woman in her 60s who may be more accustomed to the old navigation. When it comes to user experience, younger generations may prefer unique design layouts and designs. On the other hand, an older woman in her 60s may value simplicity more than the actual design layout.

Always consider the performance of your website while browsing it. Is it fast or slow? There are small things you can do to ensure optimal speed on your website so that nobody leaves your website because it’s too slow. We definitely don’t want that. Optimize and resize all your website photos/images to avoid slowing down your website due to large image sizes.

While having a stunning website is always fun, it’s useless if not backed up by a strategy. After all, the purpose of a website is to sell your service, not just to showcase how beautiful it looks, right?
